Port 82 Mariehamn, Finland

Hyvää huomenta! (Good morning!)

Cold, overcast skies accompanied us as we arrived at Mariehamn’s Svibyviken Bay on May 28th, 2022.

This lonely house appears on the port side. There is nothing else on this side of the island. “Civilization” is on the opposite side of this channel.

There are lovely quiet bays and tree-lined waters as we glide up the bay and turn around for docking.

Now we back up the bay to our berth at the pier.

We get to dock in front of the Pommern, the ship of a Åland Maritime Museum.

This is a beautiful 4-masted ship! With the concrete skirt around her, she will apparently never sail again. But I’m pleased to have this to stare at all day!

The figurehead is a beautiful red head.

It rained all day, so I’m not sad to leave. This is my 4th day of quarantine.  The time comes for us to push away.

As we move out into the channel I get a better view of the marina behind the Pommern. They have an interesting building there that is only identified as a restaurant.

This cute little building sets dockside next to where we were berthed.

Then we’re away from the docks.

A short while later we finally leave the bay.

Curious buildings are at the end – I didn’t see these on the way in this morning. I can’t tell if that is a man standing on the balcony on the right, or if it supposed to be a statue. It’s kinda eery to me.

We say näkemiin to Finland for the last time! Next stop – Stockholm, Sweden!
